FLEXIBILITY Secrets To Relieve Stiffness And Menopause Joint Pain FAST
Mar 29, 2025Have you ever found yourself letting out a sigh (or groan) as you bend down to pick something off the floor? Or feeling that uncomfortable stiffness as you get out of bed in the morning? You’re not alone. Stiffness and menopause joint pain are common symptoms at this stage of life, making those simple everyday movements feel surprisingly tricky.
But here’s the good news: just because you’re in menopause doesn’t mean that your flexibility has gone forever. With the right movement, support, and knowledge you can ease those menopause aches and pains and move through life with more freedom and flexibility.
Does Menopause Cause Joint Pain?
If you’re wondering why your joints suddenly feel tighter and you’re struggling with menopause muscle aches and pains, it’s down to the powerful hormonal shifts that are happening within your body.
Joint pain is just one of the horrible perimenopause symptoms that can start in the period before menopause officially begins. The main culprit is declining levels of oestrogen which directly affects the tissues in the joints which causes them to lose some of their natural lubrication, making movement feel more challenging.
In addition, menopausal women also lose collagen, an essential protein that keeps tissues springy and elastic. As collagen decreases, our muscles and connective tissue don’t stretch and rebound the way they used to. Add in inflammation, stress, and fatigue and it’s no wonder we feel like the Tin Man!
Signs Your Joint Pain in Menopause Needs A Boost (or Love)
It’s easy to dismiss joint pain as “just a symptom of menopause”, but there are some clear indicators which go beyond the occasional ache.
- You struggle to get out of bed in the morning due to stiff joints
- You avoid certain everyday tasks due to discomfort and/or pain
- You have constant aches in your knees, shoulders, hips, or fingers and toes
- You have a constant feeling of tightness and sluggish movement
- You find yourself avoiding certain positions altogether
If you’ve nodded your head at just one of these, it’s a sign that menopause is impacting your flexibility.
And here’s something a lot of women don’t realise: this kind of stiffness isn’t just about movement, it can also impact your mood, confidence, and overall quality of life too. So, what can be done?
How to Improve Menopause Joint Pain and Stiffness
If you’ve already jumped into “fix it” mode, the chances are you’ve ordered a bunch of supplements for menopause joint pain, or enrolled at a local gym, or searched “flexibility stretches” on Google. These are all great solutions, but the answer is actually much simpler.
Start With Gentle stretching
The key to alleviating stiffness and sore joints lies in practicing gentle, supportive movement that honours where your body is right now. Instead of pushing your body into strenuous exercise, choose slow gentle movements that feel soothing and nourishing. Think 'less is more'.
As well as opening up the body to relieve stiffness, gentle stretches that target the joints in the body are also a sure-fire way to be able to bend down without grunting and reach that top shelf with ease.
Practice Little and Often
The real magic happens, however, when you introduce a consistent stretching routine which will not only relieve menopausal joint pain, but it will also make your muscles less tense, and help your whole body feel more at ease. Just a simple 10 minute morning yoga routine can be all it takes to restore healthy joints.
In fact, 98% of our ladies in our yoga for menopause membership who stretched for just 10 minutes 3 x per week saw significant improvements in their menopause joint pain and flexibility over a 3-week period.* And they didn’t need to leave the house to achieve this!
